Infrared Electrical Systems Survey:

Q: Why should we have a infrared survey when we are not having any problems?
A: The Infrared Electrical Systems Survey locates problems in your equipment before they cause an outage, equipment damage, or a fire. These problems are not necessarily evident before the damage occurs.

Q: We have a regularly scheduled maintenance shut down where the electricians go in and physically inspect and tighten connections, so why should we need an Infrared Electrical Systems Survey?
A: The Infrared Electrical Systems Survey can locate things that are not apparent during a general shut down. These can be overloaded circuits, bad breakers, cross threaded bolts, unbalanced loads, etc. The Infrared Electrical Systems Survey can eliminate the need and expense of a general shut down.

Q: What types of equipment are usually inspected during an Infrared Electrical Systems Survey?
A: The types of equipment scanned during the infrared survey may include, but will not necessarily be limited to, the following:

Main Switchgear
Bus Duct
Lighting Panels
Rooftop Equipment
Capacitor Banks
Transformers
Power Panels
Safety Switches
Chillers
Incoming Power Lines
Motor Control Centers
Distribution Panels
Machine Panels
Substations
Emergency Transfer Switches

Q: We have a brand new building with all new switchgear and equipment. Why do we need an infrared survey?
A: While one would expect that new means good, that is not always the case. We have scanned numerous new facilities and found major problems in the switchgear and other equipment. It is a good idea to get a baseline infrared survey with report at any new facility or equipment to document and record the baseline condition for reference when future problems occur.

Infrared Roof Moisture Survey:

Q: Why is an Infrared Roof Moisture Survey an important part of a roof management program?
A: The Infrared Roof Moisture Survey provides the information as to what is wet below the waterproofing membrane with little actual destructive testing needed to confirm it. There is no other method that can do this with the amount of accuracy that infrared testing provides.

Q: What types of roofing does infrared detection work best with?
A: Most types of low slope membrane systems, including built up, fully adhered, and mechanically fastened single ply and modified bitumen. It can work, but less well, with ballasted single plies, metal, and shingles.

Q: What are the survey conditions and procedures necessary for an accurate Infrared Roof Moisture Survey?
A: The outside air temperature should be above freezing, and the roof surface should be essentially free of ice, snow, and ponding water. The survey is than done at night after a sunny day.
