ICS Infrared Consulting Services, Inc. is committed to the highest standards of professional infrared thermography. You can rely on our highly qualified Infrared Technicians to deliver the accurate, reliable information you need to protect your costly building systems. Our certified Infrared Imaging Technicians have completed courses of study and passed certification exams as specified by the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT).

Infrared Thermography Certification is written proof of your professional infrared qualifications. An ITC Infrared Certification confirms the infrared thermographer’s ability to operate an infrared camera, conduct infrared inspections and infrared surveys of buildings, collect quality infrared data, generate professional infrared inspection reports, and understand the techniques and limitations of infrared thermography for specific applications.

To obtain ASNT Certification, one must:

  • Attend an infrared certification/training course
  • Pass closed-book examinations and quizzes
  • Submit field assignments demonstrating understanding and proper use of the infrared camera

*Requirements may vary. For more information, please visit www.asnt.org.

ASNT Certification Level I

ASNT Level I Certification is the first of three levels of infrared training. While Level I Professional Infrared Imagery Technicians have extensive experience in complex building systems such as building envelopes, commercial roofing systems, electrical systems, and mechanical systems, Level I Infrared Thermographers are generally new to infrared diagnostics.

Level I Thermographers generally follow a written test procedure to evaluate specific types of equipment in their skill. Level I Infrared Testing Technicians can operate their infrared cameras and software to identify and measure thermal anomalies caused by improper design, workmanship or material failure. Specific applications for ASNT Level I Certification include: electrical distribution systems, mechanical systems, steam systems, refractory systems, underground piping, building envelopes and flat roofs.

ASNT Certification Level II

ASNT Level II Infrared Inspection Professionals are experienced thermographers and troubleshooters. Level II IR Scan Technicians typically deploy multiple diagnostic technologies to determine the root cause of a problem in order to recommend repairs for building systems including building envelopes, commercial roofing systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems and other structures.

A Level II Infrared Scan Technician has more advanced infrared training and can train and oversee Level I Infrared Thermographers.

ASNT Certification Level III

ASNT Level III Infrared Thermographers are the most advanced. A Level III Infrared Scanning Thermographer is primarily a thermography program manager who writes the company’s written predictive maintenance/inspection practices, develops the IR test procedures and severity criteria, determines how often equipment should be inspected, and calculates the return on investment (ROI) the IR testing program is providing.

Level III Infrared Technicians generally supervise Level I and Level II Infrared Scan (IR scan) Technicians as well as provide infrared training. Level III Infrared Thermographers are consulted with when repeat problems on equipment necessitate a review of operating and maintenance procedures, or involve a redesign of equipment.
